God! I am not missing the commute!

Last month, I had a great time visiting my customers down south.

I really like long train journeys as I find that they really help my focus: no emails coming in, not having too many tabs opened, etc…

However, on that journey, I ended up in the tube, in London, at 5 o’clock!

And it all came back to me: why I left France, why I enjoy living in North Yorkshire and most importantly, why I love having no commute.

In what seems like a different life, I used to live in the suburbs of Paris and worked in Paris – we are talking 3h a day in multiple trains, just to go to work. When I lived in Australia, I had about 75 miles to go to work every day, and in Canada, I was back to a long public transport commute.

It has been 3 years since I last had to commute to work and I sometimes forget how lucky I am to be able to do so.

There would be a lot to talk about here: pros and cons of remote working, accessibility, public transport and how they could help us to reduce our carbon footprint, … but I am just going to share my story and take the time to remember how lucky I am to be able to do a job I love, from home.

What about you, what are you grateful for today?
